These tools can help improve your health and appearance faster than you ever thought possible. They helped me lose 75 pounds in 6 months and get a new lease on life.

My results are not special, they will do the same for you, no matter your age or how out of shape you are now.

Important disclosure: The links below are affiliate links, which means that when you make a purchase, I will receive a small royalty, at no additional cost to you.

#1. RENPHO Bluetooth Body Composition Scale

Knowing your scale weight, BMI, and body fat percentage is the first step to achieve your ideal body weight and composition. RENPHO is an excellent smart body composition scale choice and is Amazon’s choice with over eleven thousand reviews. Don’t let that happen to you. RENPHO Bluetooth Body Composition Scale retails today for $25.99 and FREE Shipping.

#2. Conair Body Composition Scale

The Conair Scale let me know that I was over 270 pounds. I knew I was ‘big’, just not that big. I still use the Conair scale today at 175 pounds to keep myself in check. How often should you weigh yourself? If you want to achieve your ideal weight and maintain your weight, once a day is the best. When I stopped weighing once a day, I regained 40 pounds in 6 months. Don’t let the happen to you. This Conair Body Composition Scale retails today for $26.49 and FREE Shipping.

Fitbit Charge 3 Wrist Band with Heart Rate Monitor

I wear this just about every day to remind me to get moving and get 10k steps/5 miles of walking and moving around. Never sit all day! I also use the Fitbit stopwatch for reducing workout times and seeing how long it takes to do 100 pushups. Fitbit Charge 3 Wrist Band with Heart Rate Monitor is a great tool.

CrossRope Infinity Jump Rope

An Infinity Jump Rope is a great way to warm up before training. If you do not have time to warm up, you don’t have time to train. I use a jump rope almost every day, both for warming up and circuit training – I’m a big fan of the Infinity Jump Rope.

CAP Barbell Olympic Bar, 2-inch, 1200-Pound Capacity

7-Feet – An Olympic barbell is essential for weight training to get and stay fit. With just one barbell, you can do the 3 big compound powerlifting exercises; squats, deadlifts, and the bench press, and of course, much more. Squats and deadlifts by themselves will work most of the lower and upper muscles of your body, especially the back of your body, the posterior chain. A CAP Barbell Olympic Bar is essential for barbell training.

CAP Premium Bumper Plates

I am a big fan of bumper plates because their lighter weight and correct height are so useful for learning to deadlift with proper form. Plus they are easy on the ears and your neighbors since they are not made of iron. A pair of CAP Premium Bumper Plates is an excellent way to progress in your training without disturbing your family, neighbors, or gym friends.

Ader Fitness Olympic Fractional Plates

Fractional plates are helpful to gradually increase your squat, bench and deadlift weight. Instead of adding 10 or more pounds, add 2.5 or 5 pounds. Good for safety and getting progressively stronger.

Greententljs 2 Inch Barbell Clamps Quick Release Collars Pair Locking 2″ Pro Olympic

safety first, you must always secure your plates on the barbell to prevent injury to yourself and others. Having an extra pair is handy in a gym as well.
You need a hard sole shoe for squats and deadlifts for best stability. Never wear compressible sole running shoes for deadlifts or squats. The best squat and deadlift shoe options in 2018 are the Nike Metcon 4 Training Shoe , Reebok Crossfit Nano  or Chuck Taylor All Stars. As of today, Nike Metcon 4 are my favorite squat and deadlift shoes.

These are a couple of the benefits of deadlift socks over deadlift pants:

  1. You can see the middle of your foot for the deadlift setup.
  2. Deadlift socks are allowed in USA powerlifting competitions while deadlift pants are not.

My favorite socks for deadlifting at this point are MOXY deadlift socks.  They last long, are comfortable, have additional shin padding and go over the knee.

Rocktape Rock Guard Deadlift Shin Protectors – sometimes you need more than deadlift socks and /or deadlift pants to protect your shins.

This Yaheetech Olympic bar isn’t specifically designed for powerlifting or deadlifting. However, it’s an excellent option for beginners who want to deadlift, but don’t want to spend a fortune on something like a Rogue Ohio Power Bar.

It’s a perfectly serviceable bar rated for up to 300 lbs.

So while you won’t be setting any deadlifting records with it, you’ll still be able to use it to build a reasonable level of strength.

See the entire report in the 5 Best Deadlift Barbells on The Market Today

#3. Nike Metcon 4 Cross-Training Shoes

Nike Metcon 4 are great CrossFit and deadlift shoes. They keep you low to the ground, provide foot stability, and prevent knee sprains.

Before the Metcon, I wore typical rubber gym shoes and sprained my knee doing squats. Don’t let that happen to you. Since I started wearing Nike Metcon 4 cross-training shoes, my knees have felt great.

Wear the best shoes for squats and deadlifts.

See why the best deadlift shoes are so critical.

#4. Weightlifting Shin Guards

THEFITGUY Weightlifting Shin Guards can go over your skin, socks, or training pants. They provide shin protection for deadlifts, CrossFit, snatches, cleans, box jumps, and rope climbs.

Best of all, with THEFITGUY shin guards, you do not need to remove your shoes, saving you valuable time.

See the best deadlift shin guards for 2023.

#5. Moxy Deadlift Socks

Moxy deadlift socks will prevent shin scraping and keep your knees, and lower legs warmed up.

I suffered many shin scrapes and bruises until I started wearing proper shin protection for deadlifting.

These deadlift socks provide excellent shin protection and are why I continue to use Moxy socks for more than five years.

I highly recommend Moxy premium deadlift socks.

#6. Dark Iron Fitness Weight lifting belt

Dark Iron Fitness Genuine leather weight lifting belt for men and women provides strong support for squats and deadlifts, which both require bracing your core.

A weight lifting belt helps you learn how to brace, besides protecting your lower back.

This belt is an IPF sanctioned powerlifting belt.

This certification means you can use this belt in any powerlifting competition sanctioned by the International Powerlifting Federation.

I would not leave home without a weight lifting or powerlifting belt on a squat or deadlift workout day.

#7. Starting Strength

Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe is the Bible of basic barbell training.

Learn how to squat, deadlift, and bench press, the basic powerlifting lifts, and foundational 3×5 workout plan.

Deadlift pants provide excellent shin protection for beginners as you perfect your deadlift form.
Deadlift Support Weight Belt – this belt ensures your back, abs and entire core are evenly stabilized for extra power and strength, especially for deadlifting heavier weights.
Rip Toned Wrist Straps – the only training straps endorsed by 2014 World Champion Powerlifter Kevin Weiss. Eliminate grip strength fatigue from getting in the way of your deadlift progress.
XMark Fitness XMat Ultra Thick Equipment Mat – you need a heavy duty mat to protect your floor.
Dead Wedge – helps to raise a loaded barbell for loading/unloading plates. Small enough for your gym bag. Read my dead wedge review here.

Power Rack – Squats are one of the most powerful exercises to change your body from fat to fit. If you are going to squat, you must use a power rack. Especially if you are lifting alone, and even if you have a spotter. Safety first, because if you get hurt, there goes your body transformation. To squat safely, you need to use a power rack at the gym or your own Power Rack in your basement or garage like this one which has many excellent reviews.

Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training, 3rd Edition – my favorite weight training book to learn the essential powerlifting and strength training lifts; deadlift, squat, bench press and how to lift with correct form and successful progressive resistance training.

Underground Secrets To Faster Running Paperback – November 2, 2005 by Barry Ross – High school phenomenon and Olympic Gold Medalist Allyson Felix used this strength training system to run the fastest 200 meters in the world in 2003.  Based upon physiology and physics, it incorporates the most recent studies in running mechanics.  This training program will dramatically increase running speed, jumping height and muscle power for all athletes.  If you are not familiar with Allyson Felix or her deadlifting prowess and how it helped her become an Olympic athlete, read this article.

The 4 Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat Loss, Incredible Sex and Becoming Superhuman by Timothy Ferriss. While I do not subscribe to all of the meal plan, for example, eliminating oatmeal, nevertheless, there are many excellent ideas presented, such as the minimum effective dose. The 4 Hour Body is an excellent and fun read.
