How do you handle bumps in the road? A glitch here or there?
We all have certain memories and history in our lives that are not always the most conducive to staying motivated. It is easy, especially when confronted with discussions about the past, or even the present, to drop a bit from our high so to speak.
Anyone who is taking the steps to improve themselves, whether it is with the simple concepts of Hashi Mashi, real food & real strength, or whether it is some other program or self care plan, they can relate to feeling on a high when they are seeing continuous progress.
You can see your body changing from week to week and month to month. You are losing actual weight in some cases and just fat percentage in others, but your sizes are going down.
The suits you wear, the shirts, your pants, and for women, their dress sizes are shrinking as muscle replaces fat, since muscle takes up so much less space. People start to make comments that they do not recognize you or that you look great or that you are now hereby declared to be slim.
And of course, besides the comments, you yourself feel so much better. So what do you do when a topic comes up which puts your mind into past memories, or even present challenges.
Here is one suggestion:
Number one, do not fall back to old habits to quell the anxiety. Ben & Jerry’s heath bar vanilla crunch and oreos will never resolve those feelings, never.
They might taste sweet for a moment and give us some type of sensation that will mask whatever sadness was woken up, but we all know that the only thing they will contribute, is a temporary high, and a permanent waistline that is much bigger than what we want!
Number two, get a good rest and wake up to a new day.
Every day has two components, night, and day. The night time is usually chillier than the day. The sun has gone and the most natural thing to do in the night time is to rest.
I think that we can say that nature itself is teaching us how to handle those rough times and memories of our past, the night time of our lives, those times when the joy has set and we are in our night phase so to speak.
The lesson is that we should rest, sleep, meditate, get calm, get still, stop talking, stop complaining, stop repeating the same narrative of the past, just be silent, like the silent night when all is still.
Because as sure as the day follows the night in nature, so too can a new day, a new circumstance follow the night, a new bright day, new opportunities, new events can definitely take place which will over the course of time, develop into a sunny day.
So, when the night time comes, as it surely does for every person in the world, rest up, stay still, and be confident that the sun will rise once again when you will surely smile again!
