I was thinking today of how much time I typically spend reading the ‘news', news about the world, politics, international scene, gossip, you name it, I think I am reading it. Listening to the news on tv, hearing the news on radio, reading on the web.
And there is still alot left to accomplish. I am closing in on 37 weeks of Hashimashi, I have definitely made progress, but there is so much more that I would like to accomplish. How can I do so frittering away countless minutes, hours, paying attention to the ‘news' that the media wants me to read. It is their content, about other people, it has little to do with me, and I have little control over what is going to happen.
Can I control what will happen in Venezuela, with Chavez gone? In Syria? In North Korea now that Rodman has declared Kim Jung Un to be be his bff? No, I do not see how my reading the stories will help me control what is happening there. For me, most of the news is an exercise in shock and frustration, so, I am saying Zehhu to it, that is it, I am done. I am going to start creating my own news, news that makes sense, to me, the breaking stories of mine that will keep me motivated to keep moving forward.
There are a few issues that I want to start tackling. And each issue, I plan to have a separate post about it, since they are all that important. I hope that you will share your own thoughts on each of them.
The first is to double down on getting even better. Double down seemed to be the phrase of choice for this last long and corrosive political season. Everyone was doubling down, from the white house to congress. I am done with their doubling down with our tax money, and yea, we have little control over what is going to happen, that makes it all the more important to double down on what we do control!
So , for me, that is the food that I put in my body, the exercise I do with my body, the thoughts that I have in my mind, the actions that I take.
The first thing that I will DD (aka Double Down 🙂 on is my workouts. Last night I started my first one. I am going to follow the 5×5 plan by Mehdi of stronglifts. I did not do it too faithfully over the last 8 months and read his plan again and while on a plane from Houston to New York City, I decided that I would DD on the exercise plan first.
The main idea is to have squats form the basis of the workout, so on day 1, squats, then bench, then barbell rows, which I did last night, and I can tell you that after just that one workout, I could feel my body responding to the 5 sets of 5 reps, felt great, I will be writing more about it in detail, so , stay tuned.
I want to start organizing my goals better, dreams, and things that I must correct to get ahead.
For example, correcting some bad habits, one of which is not sleeping on time, so, without further ado, I am going to finish up this post and get to sleep now! I know it is early, only being 230am, but that is early for me, and I must get in 8 hours of sleep, essential to muscle growth and recovery.
We have more to talk about, but let me know if you are in on the idea of creating our own news.
We spend so much of our lives working for the company, doing for others, creating their news, should we not spend at least equal time on our own?
So, to implement this, I really have to work hard to not open up the typical news magazines that I read online, and my plan is to spend more time writing here on Hashimashi, hope to hear back more inspirational happenings that we are all having on this site, and of course spend time doing other things that I have to get done for myself, goals, dreams, even the time to sort them all out.
You can see the cover of the New York Times from March 6, 1933. Is it much different than the news of today? Gold hoarders, economic calamities, world chaos, clouds of war. So that is 80 years ago? Is much changing here? Similar stories, different players on the world stage. So that is why I am thinking that a more rational approach, one that will make me feel better, maybe you, is to make our own news. The next time that someone asks me ‘What's new?', I will actually have something to say positive about my own growth or path that I am headed on. That's what is new. Oh yea, well, let's see, over the last nine months, I lost 55 pounds of fat, built muscle, I know that because I am lifting approximately triple the weights that I started with on almost every exercise that I do these days, my blood pressure is down significantly, I am no longer on the borderline of being type 2 diabetic and my waist size is 14″ smaller, that is the news that I want to hear, that is the news that is fit to print, at least for ourselves.
In six months from now, what will your news be? Let's start making some new goals now and keep following up on them , gradually, consistently, until we achieve them.
What are your thoughts?
