Obesity Epidemic Rages – 4 in 10 Women in America Are Obese

US Obesity Epidemic

The obesity epidemic in America rages on – The AP just released this story yesterday. My comments are in italics.

NEW YORK (AP) — The nation’s obesity epidemic continues to grow, led by an alarming increase among women.

For the first time, more than 4 in 10 U.S. women are obese, according to new government health statistics.

Obesity rates for men and women in the U.S. had been roughly the same for about a decade.

But in recent years, women have surged ahead and now just over 40 percent of women are obese, compared to 35 percent of men.

How to Solve the Obesity Epidemic

Just a few years ago, I was officially obese. I was one of the 35 percent of men who was tipping the scales above 30 percent body fat. At my highest weight, I was over 275 pounds on a 6’2″ frame. Boy was I fat.

Obesity sucks. What is worse is that there seems to be a hypnotic trance as to what the causes are. Do you really think it is that complicated that we need new diet books every year to educate us what to do? Do you think that people always counted calories? What about before anyone ever heard of the calorie?

Stop counting calories! Start eating real food! That is all that there is to it. This is not rocket science.

I am so empathetic to the millions of people that find themselves obese, and think that something is wrong with them. There is nothing wrong with you. You were raised watching an endless stream of commercials advertising tasty looking ‘food’.

Of course none of those products are food, they are just manufactured in plants of brick and mortar. You need real food that is produced by the earth.

None of us would ever believe that our own government allows products that are dangerous to our health to be advertised, but it does.

Stop eating these products and obesity will magically disappear.

Obesity Epidemic Statistics

The percentages were reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in two articles published online Tuesday by the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The numbers are based on a small government survey that is considered the best measure of the nation’s obesity problem.

Though it is not altogether surprising to health researchers because the nation has long been growing more obese, it is “scary” that the statistic has reached 40 percent for women, said Dana Hunnes, a dietitian who sees obese patients at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Can you believe that the nation has been growing more obese, despite the mass proliferation of diet plans? How is that possible? The answer is because so many of the diet plans still do not rely on real food. The truth is that all you have to do is eat real food and start moving. But who can sell a book with only five words – Eat Real Food and Move?

“It’s a really alarming figure, and it’s alarming that it’s continuing to go up despite government calls to action on weight loss and healthy eating,” she said.

If the government was serious, the government would stop clear fake foods from being advertised, especially to unsuspecting children who are not wise enough to realize that pop tarts do not grow on trees!

Obesity in America What’s Driving the Epidemic

Why the problem is getting worse for women faster than for men remains somewhat of a mystery to health researchers. “I don’t know if anyone truly knows for sure,” Hunnes said.

Experts say there is a range of possible explanations, including that many women are satisfied with having a larger body size.

Please, no one will be satisfied with a larger body size if it means more susceptibility to disease.

What nonsense.

The rate of obesity in women is also higher than in men across the world, although far lower overall than in the U.S. According to the World Health Organization, 15 percent of women worldwide and 11 percent of men are obese.

Maybe women are more stressed out about being thin to the point of disappearing, which fuels more depression and anxiety and turning to food for comfort. I do not know, but I believe that women have a better idea. They also might be more targeted in commercials by fake food advertisers, and last for now, they might be more likely to be in supermarkets shopping for their families, where they are confronted with thousands of fake foods screaming eat me.

Attacking the Obesity Epidemic

Obesity, which means not merely overweight, but seriously overweight, is considered one of the nation’s leading public health problems because it can trigger diabetes and lead to heart disease and other serious health problems. Until the early 1980s, only about 1 in 6 adults were obese.

The problem is not increasing as dramatically as it was, but the new numbers show it is clearly not improving, said Dr. Felipe Lobelo, an Emory University researcher who focuses on obesity and physical activity.

This is a surprise that it is not improving? Hardly. Every month, there are new manufactured food products to trick us into believing that we will be doing something great for our lives if we just drink the koolaid.

Researchers looked at obesity rates among different age groups and along racial lines and found wide disparities, mainly ones that have persisted for years.

Obesity continues to be most common among black women. About 57 percent of black women are obese. In contrast, about 47 percent of Hispanic women, 38 percent of white women, and 12 percent of Asian women are obese.

I have a hunch that the 57% of black women who are obese has nothing to do with being black and everything to do with living in an area where a McDonald’s hamburger is cheaper than a mango! How is it possible that there is not sufficient subsidies allocated to ensure that fruits and vegetables are not at least as affordable as junk food? If a person lives in an area where there is limited access to real food, of course they are going to end up obese.

American Obesity Epidemic Facts

Among men of different races, obesity rates cluster much closer together — at 35 to 38 percent for blacks, Hispanics, and whites.

The researchers also found:

—About 38 percent of all adults are obese.

—About 17 percent of children are obese, which is the same as earlier reports.

—Obesity rates have been steadily increasing in adolescents since 1988 and now are at 21 percent, but have been stable in kids ages 6 to 11 in recent years at 20 percent.

Obesity is calculated by dividing a person’s weight by their height to produce a number called the body mass index , or BMI. A BMI of 25 or greater is considered overweight, and a BMI of 30 and above is obese. A person who is 5 foot 4, the average height for U.S. women, is considered obese at a weight of 174 pounds or more. A person who is 5 foot 9, about the average height for men, is deemed obese at 203 pounds.

The findings are from a regular government survey of about 5,000 Americans every two years who are weighed and measured. The new figures are from surveys done in 2013 and 2014. Last fall, the CDC released an obesity report using some of the same data, but the new reports provide more detailed look at obesity numbers through time, including slightly higher prevalence figures for adult men and women.

Obesity Epidemic in America – Final Thoughts

Do yourself or someone that you love a favor. If you happen to be obese, do not give up.

You can become slim, possibly in excellent shape in a year or less depending on how much weight you have to lose.

One of the biggest shocks of my life was when I stopped eating processed foods, all of a sudden, I started to deflate.

In six months I was down 75 pounds and in over 10 months approximately 100 pounds.

You do not need supplements unless you want a meal replacement powder for convenience once a day. Is your obesity convenient?

I do not think so, therefore, start thinking of slow food, food that takes a bit of time to prepare.

What’s Next

This is not too complicated, have vegetables every meal, have whole foods like kasha or legumes, have quality eggs without hormones added, have some fruit and some nuts.

Make your own guacamole.

You get the idea.

The obesity epidemic in America rages on because of convenience, fast food, because the food manufacturers have become our cooks and they are literally killing us.

Take back your power and make your own food. The end of obesity begins in your own kitchen using food produced by the earth.
