Squats and Deadlifts
Is it better to do squats and deadlifts on the same day or alternating every other day?
For example to do squats monday, wednesday and friday and deadlifts on those same days or do squats on monday, deadlifts on wednesdays then back to squats on fridays?
I have also tried doing squats and deadlifts sequentially, as in squats on monday, wednesday and friday and deadlifts on tuesday and thursday.
Conclusion – Squats and Deadlifts on the Same Days
After a couple of months of doing squats and deadlifts, my conclusion at least for myself is that it is better to do squats and deadlifts on the same days.
When I did squats and deadlifts on sequential days, like squats on monday, deadlift on tuesday and back to squats on wednesday, it was too much as I had no chance to rest up even though I was just doing the deadlift twice a week.
I have found that doing squats and deadlifts on the same days works for me because after doing squats, my legs and body are already warmed up from the squats and then I just do one set of five repetitions of deadlifts.
Increase Your Squats and Deadlifts Gradually
I wrote how to increase your squats 70 pounds in 35 days without steroids last week.
I realized on friday that I can write a similar post about deadlifts titled how to increase your deadlifts 110 pounds in 40 days.
Back in early november, I started doing deadlifts with 55 pounds, enough weight to get the bar off of the floor.
This last friday I did one set of five repetition deadlifts with 165 lbs.
I was as shocked as anyone else.
Even last year when I did do a deadlift with 165lbs, it was not for five repetitions.
The moral of the story is to keep improving gradually.
I have been adding at most 2.5 to 5 pounds to my squats and deadlifts and in only two months have made good gains.
There is no reason to rush the poundage you use for squats and deadlifts, just stay consistent and add resistance slowly and you will see great improvement as your body adapts to the increased weight.
